Daily Bible Nugget #134, Colossians 3:16

The Nugget:

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

My Comment:

The third title the Bible gives itself is the word of Christ found in Colossians 3:16. We are to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly in all wisdom. We are to teach and admonish one another. This may be done by using music that is honoring to God in the form of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. We are to sing with grace in our hearts to the Lord. I am not a musician, so I’d better mostly keep any singing I do to myself, but I do enjoy good Christian music, particularly the old hymns. I find that there must be a war of musical tastes going on in churches. It has been going on for some time. I noticed in the 1960s and 1970s that it was becoming harder to get young people to take part in church, for they were not used to the style of music used in Christian worship. I wonder if the popular music of the world poisoned their musical taste for Christian hymns and gospel songs. I remember the time when popular music took a great turn for the worse, in terms of my own taste. I don’t think there has been any really good popular music on music stations since about 1948. Until 1948, songs were still singable, even for children, and not evil in their message. I can remember when young people enjoyed attending “Singspirations” after the Sunday evening service held in a private home. I can remember much more recently than that when churches used to have a hymn sing shared by other churches in the area, attended by adults and young people. Now, I have not heard of any such practice going on where I am. I must say that I do not appreciate some of the styles of worship music employed today nearly as much as I enjoyed the music just a few years ago. In any case, the word of Christ needs to be shared with others, whether in a musical format or just plain reading it for ourselves out of the Bible.

Here is a link to what I call Real Christian Music!

    http://www.fbcradio.org/

Be sure to visit that site and “click” on the type of Internet speed and access you use in the upper right-hand corner to enjoy wonderful, uninterrupted commercial-free Christ-honoring Christian music.

The site also has good Bible teaching. I especially enjoy hearing Pastor W. L. Wade’s program each Friday aired at 9:45 am and 9:45 pm Eastern Standard Time.

I must thank Pastor Wade for telling me about the site so I can hear his good Bible teaching and enjoy outstanding Christian music.

Not all of the music is familiar to me, but much of it is, and it is most enjoyable. Be sure to listen, and “bookmark” the site so you can return for more enjoyment.
