Daily Bible Nugget #128, Luke 24:27

The Nugget:

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

My Comment:

As I write this comment it is the start of a new year. Many are interested in starting on a new Bible reading plan. There are many suggested plans available. But as good as these all are, none of the plans I have encountered have included the notion of accompanying Bible reading with Real Bible Study. So here is how to do it: when you notice a verse that strikes you as especially interesting or meaningful, or a verse that raises a question you want answered, take time to dig deeper into that verse by looking up the cross references available for that verse. This can be done the old-fashioned way by hand using hard-copy, that is, printed sources, or it can be done on line using the Internet. I believe the best resource on the Internet is as an example of the cross references found on line. If the link works successfully for you, you will see on that linked page the cross references printed out in full text form below the verse itself under the heading “Correlated Passages Using KJV.” If you hover your mouse pointer over the square blue “K” for any of the verses below, then click on it, it will take you to the cross references for that verse. This is the best way I know to do real Bible study using cross references via the Internet. The cross references I present on this site are more complete and more accurate than those found in the original Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, for I have studied these references since 1955 and have corrected most of the printing errors found in the original Treasury, and have greatly expanded their number in my book The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and also in my book Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible. The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge is available in software format, and is available for use with the Nook and other Android devices, and for use with the iPod and similar devices through Logos Software. Personally, I believe that a better Bible reading plan would include this element of regular Bible study using cross references. The Bible is a self-explanatory book. Cross Reference Bible Study allows the Bible to be its own commentary. This kind of Bible study, faithfully followed, will demonstrate that the Bible is a self-correcting Book, that is, if your understanding is mistaken about some Bible doctrine, studying the Bible by means of cross references will soon correct any misconceptions you may have had about any given issue the Bible instructs us about. Today’s Bible Nugget, Luke 24:27, demonstrates in context that Christ taught out of the Scriptures. What Jesus taught was that the whole of Scripture in the Old Testament speaks expressly of Him. On one occasion Jesus told the Jews that if they had believed Moses, they would have believed Him (see John 5:46), for Moses wrote of Him. May you in all your Bible reading and study learn to see Christ in all the Scriptures.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(1) Consult the cross references given in Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible on page 1158 for Luke 24:27.

(2) Consult the cross references given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge on pages 1179-1180 or in Logos 5 Bible software for Luke 24:27.

(3) Lacking access to those two resources, consult the cross references for this passage as I have developed them as given below:

I hope someone will alert whoever has designed the software program behind this Word Press website that their method of posting links does not work. It has never worked for me. I can post the desired link in this comment space and the link will appear just fine, and it will be a live link that works. Whatever feature makes the link work here in the comment area needs to be adopted in the post area too. Now some who visit this site know how to make the thing work, but it ought to be simplified so someone like me who is computer and software illiterate could make ready use of it! All that to say, here is the link to a most valuable Bible study resource on the Internet. I have given the link to the Blue Letter Bible for it features simple access to the cross references in the original Treasury of Scripture Knowledge.

Click on the link and you will see a marvelous Internet resource for Bible study using cross references the easy way.
