Muslims claim Paul is a false apostle Part 1

The Claim:

“Paul is a false apostle who started the anti-Christ movement and promoted anti-Tanakh laws. Agree?”

My response:

In the light of what the Bible itself teaches, Paul is surely not a false apostle. He was appointed and commissioned to his specific ministry by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself:

Act 9:10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

Act 9:11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,

Act 9:12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

Act 9:13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:

Act 9:14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.

Act 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

Act 9:16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

TK replied:

that’s irrelevant. How about answering the post?

if it’s true he did this, then he’s a false apostle.

My response to TK:

The text of Scripture I cited proves that Paul was not a false apostle but was appointed and commissioned by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

What I wrote is not irrelevant to the mistaken claims of the Opening Post. Notice that I have presented factual documentation from the text of Scripture. You merely state mistaken opinion that does not accord at all with what the Bible teaches.

You state a very misguided notion in the Opening Post that totally misconstrues the term “antichrist” as it is used in the Bible. Paul most certainly was not against our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul faithfully preached and taught the Gospel of Christ.

Galatians 2:9

9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. King James Version

Paul and Barnabas were extended the “right hand of fellowship” by Peter, James, and John.

Peter, James, and John would hardly have approved and affirmed the ministry of Paul and Barnabas if they had considered Paul to be a false apostle!

Peter himself states at the conclusion of his second letter, regarding Paul:

2Pe 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

2Pe 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Anyone who rejects Paul and his Letters as contained in the New Testament is the one who is Antichrist. To be against Paul is to be against Christ.

TK responded to me:

notice that you can only quote from peter and barnabas and find these quotes ONLY in paul’s and peter’s letters? this shows that there’s no approval from any other disciple and there were 10 others. In fact ive heard debates between christians and agnostics that there was a lot of friction between paul and jesus’ original disciples due to his false teachings

Answer to Muslim challenge re authenticity of words of Jesus Part 2

The Muslim Challenge:

Christians, how do you confirm those words in the Bible are the words of Jesus and not words put into his mouth?

TK’s Response to my previous answers:

again you’re quoting events and speeches as if they’re all true.

My question is still not addressed.

How do you check if these events and speeches are true?

You don’t seem to get what I mean!

My Answer:

What is recorded in the four Gospels has been checked by reputable modern scholars. I am talking about academic scholars, including historians. Even unbelieving scholars have agreed that the basic history recorded in the Gospels is true to fact.

All agree that Jesus died by crucifixion. All agree the tomb was empty. All agree that the disciples of Jesus were remarkably changed by their experience of seeing Jesus alive after His death. And history shows that the world was changed for the better by the impact of the lives and message of these men.

The speeches of Jesus contained predictions of events both soon to happen and things predicted of specific events to happen in the more distant future.

The Gospel record presents the fact that Jesus repeatedly predicted His own death and subsequent bodily resurrection from the dead three days later. This indeed is what happened. This is an example of His prediction of events soon to happen.

Jesus predicted the destruction of Jerusalem and its Temple. In all, I have counted 25 or more specific predictions Jesus made regarding this event that came true. This would be a very remarkable example of things Jesus predicted regarding things that would happen in the more distant future.

There are what are called internal evidences of the truth of what is recorded in the New Testament about our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the long-predicted Messiah of Israel. He fulfilled many specific messianic prophecies recorded in the Old Testament. Some of these prophecies were time prophecies that had to be fulfilled at the time Jesus actually came and could not be fulfilled later. No one could appear now and successfully make the claim to fulfill those prophecies of a coming Jewish Messiah.

There is an internal evidence of the truth of the words of Jesus seen by the unity of the witness of the whole of Scripture by the consistency of all Jesus said and did down to the minutest matters which is displayed by the cross references I and other scholars have assembled as found in my books The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury. Sensitive readers who carefully consult these references come to unshakably know the unity and truth of Scripture they display and confirm.

Note to readers of this Real Bible Study site:

Many of the evidences I make reference to in my comment to TK are extensively documented elsewhere on this site. A prime example would be my enumeration of the predictions Jesus made about the future destruction of Jerusalem which were fulfilled in 70 AD.

Daily Bible Nugget #694, John 7:46

The Nugget:

Joh 7:46  The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. (KJV)

Joh 7:46  The temple guards answered, “No human has ever spoken like this man.” (GW, God’s Word translation)

Joh 7:46 They answered, “No one has ever spoken like that man!” (CEV, Contemporary English Version)

My Comment:

In answer to the question about how I know the words of Jesus reported in the Gospels are really His and not merely words put in His mouth by anonymous later writers, I appealed to this verse and its context.

Not everyone will be convinced by the evidence I furnished. It may take a certain sensitivity to how language and literature works to grasp the point.

Careful readers will sense an air of reality possessed by these Gospel accounts and realize the writers were recording history, not writing fiction. The Gospel writers wrote what they themselves heard and saw or recorded what living witnesses to the events told them they heard and saw.

Another avenue of proof is to consult the cross references I and many Bible scholars before me have noted and which I present in my Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury:

John 7:46

The officers answered. +Joh 7:32.

Never. Joh 7:26, *+Mat 7:28; *+Mat 7:29, *Luk 4:22.

spake like. Joh 7:15, Joh 4:29; Joh 4:41; Joh 8:7, *Psa 45:2, Pro 8:8; Pro 16:21, Isa 50:4, Mat 1:22; Mat 7:28; Mat 22:33, Mar 11:18; Mar 12:37, Luk 2:47; Luk 19:48; Luk 22:53, Act 6:10; Act 13:12.

Answer to Muslim challenge re authenticity of words of Jesus

The Muslim Challenge:

Christians, how do you confirm those words in the Bible are the words of Jesus and not words put into his mouth?

Muslims trust the words of Prophet Muhammad pbuh because we have authentic sources to prove :

1) Muhammad pbuh is a true prophet (he never lied, the testimony of people who knew him since he was a child, the miracles he performed, his character, the prophecies that came true during his lifetime etc)

2) since we believe he’s a true prophet, then all revelations are from God Almighty, the Creator of this universe

3) therefore the words in the Quran are God’s words and the words in authentic hadith are the Prophet’s words

4) the Quran is the verbatim word of God, never tampered with by human hands

How about you?

My Response:

The answer to your question as to how we know the words of Jesus in the Bible are His words and “not words put into his mouth” is given in John 7:46,

Joh 7:25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
Joh 7:26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

Joh 7:31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

Joh 7:32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

Joh 7:45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
Joh 7:46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

Jesus Himself anticipated this very question when He responded to the question posed by the Jews who heard Him:

Joh 7:15  And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
Joh 7:16  Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
Joh 7:17  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Jesus gave another clue that reveals a very practical test of the truth of His words in the following chapter of John:

Joh 8:30  As he spake these words, many believed on him.
Joh 8:31  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Only the words of Jesus produce this effect in the lives of those who continue to hear His Word and continue to believe Him!

Another Muslim Challenge re Fig Tree Cursed by Jesus

8-17-22 Another Muslim Challenge re Fig Tree Cursed by Jesus

The Muslim Challenge:

“Christ the God
one who does not know when the fig tree blooms, how can he be a God leave alone being God he cannot even be a good human itself. Mark 11:13.

Though it was his own mistake, yet he cursed the tree.

This is the God of Christians.”

My Response:

Thank you for sharing the correct Bible reference to Mark 11:13 in your post.

Mar 11:13  And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

Here is my commentary on that verse as given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and my expansion of that work, The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury:

Mark 11:13

seeing. Mat 21:19, *Luk 13:6, 7, 8, 9.

a fig tree. Note: The fig tree, sukea, is a genus of the polygamia triaecia class of plants, seldom rising above twelve feet, but sending off from the bottom many spreading branches. The leaves are of a dark green color, nearly a span long, smooth, and irregularly divided into from three to five deep rounded lobes; and the fruit grows on short and thick stalks, of a purplish color, and contains a soft, sweet, and fragrant pulp, intermixed with numerous small seeds. +Gen 3:7, Luk 13:6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

he found nothing. Isa 5:7.

for. Note: Dr. Campbell observes, that the declaration, “for the time of (ripe, Ed.) figs was not yet,” is not the reason why our Lord did not find any fruit on the tree, because the fig is of that class of vegetables in which the fruit is formed in its immature state before the leaves are seen. But as the fruit is of a pulpy nature, the broad, thick leaves come out in profusion to protect it from the rays of the sun during the time it is ripening. If the words, “for the time,” etc. however, are read as a parenthesis, they then become a reason why Jesus Christ should look for fruit, because the season for gathering not having fully come, it would remove all suspicion that the fruit had been gathered: while the presence of the leaves incontestably proved the advance of the tree to the state in which fruit is found. Isa 28:4 note.

the time. It was not the season. Mar 1:20 note. Mar 13:28, Luk 19:44.

was not yet. FS63K, +Gen 37:13, The Passover did not occur at the proper fig-season; but figs remained on the trees (dried) right through the winter. These, which could generally be found were called pag. The name is preserved in the word Bethphage (house of figs). At the time of the Passover, such figs might well have been looked for. The Lord went to see “if consequently he might find anything thereon.” It was “if consequently,” because “it was not the proper season of figs” (suka: not olunthoi, as the others were called, and for which He sought). We must also remember that in the East all fruit trees were enclosed in gardens, and had an owner. This tree, though, by the roadside (Mat 21:19) must have been enclosed, and as it grew over the wall, passers by might partake of the fruit (Deut 23:24). But the owner had probably shaken the fruit off, or gathered it himself, and hence deserved the judgment which came upon him (see Lev 19:9, 10; Lev 23:22, Deut 24:19, 20, 21). This is one of the two miracles of destruction wrought by Jesus: and we know that in the other case the owners of the swine were justly punished (F/S 124).

My Comment:

It is helpful to learn and know the setting and cultural background of the Bible before you mistakenly charge it with error!

Is the Holy Ghost an Angel?

8-16-22 Is the Holy Ghost an Angel

The Muslim Challenge (by TK):

The Holy Ghost is an ANGEL. Trinity is made up of God, a man and an angel.

My Response (to TK):

As I have suggested before, you would be greatly helped by reading the Bible more carefully.

The Holy Spirit is a divine Person. The Holy Spirit is called God (Acts 5:3, 4.)

Acts 5:3-4
3  But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4  Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. [bold emphasis added]
King James Version

The Holy Spirit is not an Angel. Angels are created beings. God is not a created being.

Several divine attributes are incommunicable: they belong to God exclusively, and cannot be communicated, delegated, or given to a created being. Yet in the Bible these attributes are attributed to the Holy Spirit, such as:

omniscience, 1 Corinthians 2:10-11,

1 Corinthians 2:10-11
10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11  For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
King James Version

omnipresence, Psalm 139:7,

Psalms 139:7
7  Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
King James Version

sovereignty, 1 Corinthians 12:11,

1 Corinthians 12:11
11  But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
King James Version

immutability, Matthew 12:32,

Matthew 12:32
32  And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
King James Version

I have placed the following explanatory note at Matthew 12:32 in my Bible study resources The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury:

speaketh against. FS73, +Zec 1:5, That the Holy Spirit can be the subject of blasphemy (by attributing his miraculous works to Satan) proves him to be as much a person as the Son; and it proves him to be divine, because it shows that he may be sinned against, and so sinned against that the blasphemer shall not be forgiven. A person he must be, or he could not be blasphemed: a divine person he must be to constitute this blasphemy a sin against him in the proper sense, and of so malignant a kind as to place it beyond the reach of mercy (Watson, Theological Institutes, vol. i. p. 629, cited in McClintock and Strong, vol. iv. p. 309, article “Holy Ghost”). “These passages (Mat 12:31-32, Mar 3:28-29, Luk 12:10) at least imply beyond cavil the personality of the Holy Spirit, for sin and blasphemy can only be committed against persons” (T. Rees, International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, vol. 1, p. 486, article “Blasphemy”). %+Gen 1:2, +*Luk 3:22 note. Joh 14:26; Joh 16:13-14, Act 8:29; Act 8:39; Act 13:2; Act 15:28; Act 16:7; Act 20:28; Act 28:25, Rom 8:27, 1Co 2:10-11; 1Co 12:8; 1Co 12:11, Eph 4:30.

Daily Bible Nugget #693, Isaiah 26:9

The Nugget:

Isa 26:9  With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

My Comment:

From what I read and see in the news, it appears that almost no one is seriously reading and studying the Bible for themselves.

I shared this verse, Isaiah 26:9, last month in a post titled “Daily Bible Nugget #689, Isaiah 26:9.” In that  post I shared the information I have placed for that verse in my resource, The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury. I began with just the first key words and reference to Topic Number 1392:

Isaiah 26:9
With my. T1392, 2Sa 23:5. Psa 42:1, 2; Psa 143:6.

I pointed out that Topic Number 1392 refers to “With the soul, Isa 26:9.” I shared that this has reference to just one of more than a hundred Spiritual Conditions of Prayer, and pointed out that these form a marvelous series of studies. The actual complete list is best seen in the print version of my book, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. Unfortunately, my book has been out of print since about 1999, so getting your hands on a used copy now costs more than new copies once did. I just shared the full list of the “Spiritual Conditions of Prayer” in my recent post, “Daily Bible Nugget #692, John 15:7.” At least for now, you can access this full list here until the new print edition of The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge becomes available in 2023.

When I chose Isaiah 26:9 for a “Daily Bible Nugget,” I had in mind the fact that it states the remedy for correcting the evil conditions that in some ways now seem to be growing worse. That remedy is stated in the words:

“for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.”

The very literal meaning of “thy judgments” reflects some very unpleasant consequences that present evil doing will bring, both in the here and now, as well as hereafter.

Before then, we each can take care to put or keep our “own house” in order by earnestly obeying Hebrews 12:14,

Heb 12:14  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

I must have explored Hebrews 12:14 here before. It is a most important verse. When the Bible declares that without holiness, no person shall see the Lord, we ought to sit up and take notice! It might be well to explore just what holiness is.

I will see if I can find and  post a link here to any previous study of Hebrews 12:14 that I have placed on this site.

Here is a link to my eight-part series explaining Hebrews 12:14 using the great hymn, “Take Time to be Holy”:

Daily Bible Nugget #692, John 15:7

The Nugget:

Joh 15:7  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

My Comment:

There is much more to know and learn from John 15:7 than I can include in a single post!

In my Topic Number Index (which was inadvertently left out of the electronic edition of my book, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge) John 15:7 is the first passage given under the general heading, “Spiritual Conditions of Prayer.” Even the format of my resource, The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury, does not seem to include the general headings or subheadings, so some of the organization of this index is not available to the reader.

For your study, I present below the section “Spiritual Conditions of Prayer,” though the topic numbers no longer correspond to those used in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge or The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury due to the perils of “copy and paste” and automatic numbering.

[From Ken Sagely, FB Post of 7-21-22]

Delighting in His Word.

The Nugget:

Job 23.12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of lips ; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

My Comment:

Thanks with much appreciation to Ken Sagely for letting me share here his encouraging Facebook post about “Delighting in His Word.” If you have not been delighting in His Word, the Bible, I encourage you to start reading it today. The more you read and study the Bible, the more you will enjoy it.
