Daily Bible Nugget #121, Acts 1:8

The Nugget:

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

My Comment:

This passage records the “marching orders” Jesus left His disciples immediately before Jesus ascended to heaven. True to His promise, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples at Pentecost. The New Testament church grew in the direction Jesus commanded. First, the disciples witnessed in Jerusalem and all Judea. Then they witnessed in Samaria. After that, they brought the message of the Gospel to the rest of the inhabited earth. In our own time, Jerusalem could well represent our home town, our immediate neighborhood. Judea could represent the larger surrounding area. Samaria would represent “the other side of the tracks,” those neighborhoods and areas inhabited by those that are culturally or racially different from ourselves. The uttermost part of the earth would represent our outreach to the rest of the planet. The Gospel message, to be most effective, needs to be communicated by those who have been empowered for service by the Holy Spirit.
