Daily Bible Nugget #86, Luke 9:26

The Nugget:

Luke 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.

My Comment:

Why are we so timid about sharing our excitement about the Bible, and our faith in Jesus Christ? I’ve observed and encountered people who are very excited about sports, and they are not ashamed of that. Why can’t we be just as excited about Jesus? I’ve known of families that cart their kids all over the place to be sure they get to participate in school sporting events. How many will take their kids and themselves to a Bible study or other genuinely Christian and Biblical activity like the evening service or the Wednesday evening prayer meeting or to the youth group at church? I guess a lot of churches have given up on those. Why is the church calendar practically shut down in the summer when the young people are not in school and could actually participate? Even teachers like me are in a better position to participate in church activities in summer when away from paper grading and lesson planning. My point is, if we really know Jesus Christ as our Savior, we will not be ashamed of Him. We may hesitate to speak up about spiritual things when the opportunity presents itself. I made it my commitment even as a new Christian not to initiate the conversation about the Bible or spiritual things in school or in the workplace. But if someone asks me about a Bible-related subject, then I did not hesitate to answer any question they might have. When they ask me the question, when they bring up the subject, then certainly I have an open door to respond in as helpful a way as I know how. But when I placed this verse (Luke 9:26) as a teenager in this list of Bible verses for the plan of salvation, my concern was that anyone wishing to come to Christ for salvation realize that they must confess Him before men, and not be ashamed of their relationship with Him. Jesus said that if we are ashamed of Him, then He will be ashamed of us. None of us want to be in that position.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(2) Consult the cross references given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge on page 1147 or in Logos 5 Bible software for Luke 9:26.
