Daily Bible Nugget #23, Psalm 119:105

The Nugget:

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

My Comment:

I have argued repeatedly and at length with individuals on the Internet who have been persuaded by their official “Teaching Authority” that the Bible cannot be understood or correctly interpreted by the ordinary person. On this theme at least, if not on many others, that so-called “Teaching Authority” is profoundly mistaken. The Bible repeatedly declares that it is understandable. If the Bible cannot be understood, how could the Bible writer state that God’s Word is a lamp for his feet, and a light to his path? The Bible was written to illuminate the path of life and guide us on the way. No other Book can serve this function. As a well-educated English teacher (with enough college semester hours in the fields of English and linguistics to total more than what is required for a triple academic major), I can tell you that as much as I enjoy great literature, no work of great literature, not even Shakespeare, can lay claim to “converting the soul” (Psalm 19:7), or bring the reader into full possession of eternal life. John declares the purpose of his book, the Gospel of John, stating “But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31). Where will you spend eternity? Read the One Book that will direct you to the right place! The other “place” is not where you want to go. Unfortunately, more people are needlessly and heedlessly headed to the wrong place than to the right place because, John tells us, “men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil” (John 3:19). Don’t end up one of those folks. While they think all their friends will be there, it won’t be a party.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(1) Consult the cross references given in Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible on page 632.

(2) Consult the cross references given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge on page 676 or in Logos 5 Bible software for Psalm 119:105.

(3) Lacking access to those two resources, consult the cross references for this passage as I have developed them further given below:

God’s Word was clearly written to give us direction. It is a lamp; it is a light. One Response to Daily Bible Nugget #23, Psalm 119:105

  1. ken sagely says:

psm 119.105 thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. what
a excellent promise to claim every day! ii cor 1.20 for all the promises of god in
him are yea, and in him amen, unto the glory of god by us! there are some
encouraging cross references i liked several of them. psm 19. 8 the
statues are right, rejoicing the heart the judgments of the lord are true and
righteous altogether. vs 9 the fear of the lord of the lord is clean, enduring for
ever, the judgments of the lord are true and righteous altogether. vs 10 more
to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter than honey
and the honeycomb. vs 11 moreoever by them is thy servant warned; and in
keeping them there is great reward. vs 12 who can understand his errors?
cleanse thou me from secret faults. vs 13 keep back thy servant also from pre-
sumptous sins; let them not have dominion over me; then shall i be upright,
and i shall be innocent from the great transgression. vs 14 a good verse to pray
to start off the day.” let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight, o lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

another example of a good prayer to pray is psm 43.3 “o send out thy light and
thy truth; let them lead be, let the bring me unto thy holy hill, and to they taber-
nacles”. pro 6.23 for the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light; and rep-
roofs of instruction are the way of life. eph 5.13 but all things that are reproved
are made manifest by the light; for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. psm
18.28 for thou wilt light my candle; the lord my god will enlighten my darkness.
job 29.3 when his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light i walked
through darkness;ii pe 1.19 we have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto
ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the
day dawn, and the day star rise in your hearts; jn 8.12 then spake jesus again unto
them, saying, i am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in
darkness, but shall have the light of life. psm 119 is the longest chapter in the bible
it is about the word of god and prayer. a combination to grow in the lord 11 pe 3.18
