Daily Bible Nugget #22, Psalm 19:7

The Nugget:

Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

My Comment:

I understand this to mean, in the simplest of terms, that the Bible, God’s written Word, is perfect. God caused men to write the Bible, but He inspired them by His Holy Spirit to write what He wanted written. Since God wrote it, the Bible is perfect. There are no mistakes or contradictions in the Bible as it came from God’s inspired penmen.

God’s Word as it is found in the Bible has the power to convert the soul. It has the power to convert your soul. If you read the Bible for a while, and believe what it says, you will be converted. If you have not yet been converted to true faith in Christ, it may be that you haven’t read the Bible enough yet. When I began to read the New Testament continuously, it took only from August to November for God to work a total change in my life. I became truly saved, and knew it. Some Bible readers may take longer to get to that point, but surely if you read what is there and believe what is written, this wonderful experience will happen to you, too. Now, I am not a pastor. I am not a preacher. I became a secondary level or high school English teacher. Not all English teachers have studied the Bible to the degree I have. Perhaps many, if not most pastors have not studied the Bible to the extent that I have either. But my point is, I was converted to true, life-changing faith in Christ as a teenager (without knowing it would happen, without even seeking for it to happen) by reading repeatedly through the New Testament. It is in part my mission to encourage others to read the Bible so they can be brought to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. In less “religious language,” reading and absorbing the New Testament message will change both your worldview and your outlook on life. When it happens to you, you will be convinced that it is the best thing you have ever experienced.

The Bible gives us wisdom. It makes us wise. It makes the ordinary, perhaps unpretentious, unsophisticated person to be wise. That wisdom can help you keep your own life on the right track. It can give you much of the knowledge you need to make wise decisions in life.

I have encouraged students in my English classes over the span of nearly 40 years of my teaching career to turn to the Bible for help when they were facing difficult circumstances and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Many of them thanked me profusely for having passed along this suggestion to them. They said it changed their lives. It brought them to the true light. They came to know Christ as their Savior. One student called all the “Smith’s” in the then very large Detroit phone book till he reached my name to inform me of his new-found faith in Christ. Another called me from the home where she was babysitting to let me know that after reading the Bible as I encouraged her to do, she had just knelt down beside a bed while the children slept and gave her life to Christ. I did not “coach” any of these students as to what or how to do any of this. I simply suggested that to find the help they desperately needed, they would find the Bible most helpful.

May God bless your reading of His Word, even if for now some of you are limited by time and circumstances such that reading just one “Daily Bible Nugget” is all you can do. As I said before, if you do even that much, you will find God will work in your life through His Word.

One Response to Daily Bible Nugget #22, Psalm 19:7

  1. ken sagely says:

psm 19.7-14 are very blessed verses to me. vs 7 the law of the lord is perfect, coverting
the soul; the testimony of the lord is sure, making wise the simple. there are many
scriptures that tell us what the word of god is all about. psm 119. 72 the law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. vs 119.96 i have seen an end of all perfection; but thy commandment is exceeding broad., vs 97 o how i love thy law! it is my meditation all the day.vs 98 thou through thy commandments hast
made me wiser than mine enemies; for they are ever with me. vs 99 i have more
understanding than all my teachers; for thy testimonies are my meditation. vs 100
i understand more than the ancients, because i keep thy precepts. 119.105 thy
word is a lamp unto my feet, and light unto my path. joshua 1.8 this book of the
law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night
,that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou
shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. the key words
of this passage are “perfect” psm 18.30 “as for god, his way is perfect; the word of the
lord is tried; he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. “restoring” ps 23.3 he
restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake.
ps 119.9 wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto
according thy word. james 1.21 wherfore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of
naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save
your souls. another key word: testimony, isa 8.20 to the law and testimony; if they
wpeak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. another
key word is sure, heb 6.18-19 that by 2 immutable things ,in which it was imposs
ible for god to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to
lay hold upon the hope set before us, vs 19 which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth in that within the veil; making is the
last key word in this verse. 119.130 the entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth
understanding unto the simple. ii tim 3.16-17 all scripture is given by inspiration of
god, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in right
eousness,vs 17 that the man of god may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good
works. these are just some of my favorite cross references on psm 19.7 you want to look them all up for each verse you choose to study. you will be blessed many times!
