Daily Bible Nugget #679, Psalm 125:3

The Nugget:

Psa 125:3  For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. (KJV)

Psa 125:3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do wrong. (ESV)

Psa 125:3  A wicked ruler will not be allowed to govern the land set aside for righteous people. That is why righteous people do not use their power to do wrong. (GW)

Psa 125:3 Indeed, the scepter of a wicked king will not settle
upon the allotted land of the godly.
Otherwise the godly might
do what is wrong. (NET Bible)

Psa 125:3 For the sceptre of lawlessness shall not remain over the allotment of the righteous, – lest the righteous put forth – unto perversity – their hands. (EB)

My Comment

Reading more than one English translation should help us to understand a Bible verse or passage better than just reading one.

It also helps to read what other verses or passages careful Bible scholars and commentators have found that help explain the verse you are studying. The Bible is not written in the form of a systematic theology. We must gather what the Bible says about any topic it mentions by reading these related verses. The links to the related verses are called cross references.

If you think you know your Bible well but have never made use of cross reference Bible study, read the cross references below to see what you have been missing!

hello jerry i have a couple of cross refs i like for 125.3, Psm 103.14 For He knoweth our
frame that we are dust. 1 Corinthians 10.13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as common to man but God ia faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way of escape that ye may be able to bear it.
