Daily Bible Nugget #265, Psalm 119:162

The Nugget:

Psalm 119:162 I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. (KJV)

Psalm 119:162 I am delighted by your saying, like a man who makes discovery of great wealth. (Basic English Bible)

My Comment:

Saints rejoice in the Scriptures (The New Topical Textbook, subtopic under the major topic “The Scriptures,” page 240).

In our day, many get excited about the prospects of gaining great wealth. They get excited about the stock market. Some hope to win the lottery. Some get excited when they are able to buy a needed or prized item at a good discount or lower price. Others rejoice when they receive a pay raise or bonus. In every case, they get excited over increased wealth. The Psalmist in his day spoke of the excitement of finding great spoil–as when victorious over an enemy in battle, the soldiers shared the plunder of war.

The Psalmist compared the excitement about discovering great wealth to the excitement true Bible believers experience when they discover more truth in God’s Word, the Bible. Genuine Bible study, what I have called here Real Bible Study, is most exciting, and most beneficial to those who will expend the effort, like seeking for hidden treasure, to learn more truth from the Bible.

From long experience, I know that one of the best ways to seek for the hidden treasure there to be found in God’s Word, the Bible, is to study the Bible using cross references. Try it. You will like it. Check out the cross references furnished immediately below.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(1) Consult the cross references given in Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible on page 634 for Psalm 119:162.
