Daily Bible Nugget #223, Jeremiah 36:6

The Nugget:

Jeremiah 36:6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

My Comment:

The Bible declares that the Scriptures should be read publicly to all. There will be opposition to Bible reading from some quarters. Jeremiah encountered political and religious opposition when his book was read aloud to the people in the Lord’s house. When Jeremiah’s scroll of his book was read before the king, the king cut the sections of the scroll as they were read and tossed them in his fireplace in his winter-house. If you read the interesting story in Jeremiah chapter 36, you will learn that God inspired Jeremiah to give those inspired messages again plus more. The king did not fare too well after that incident, nor did the nation. Any individual, organization, church, or cult, or government that objects to the reading of the Bible will ultimately reap a reward for resisting God’s Word and failing to believe it. The reward may not be very pleasant. Sometimes the reward, or punishment, is carried out in this life and time. For sure it will be rendered as an adverse judgment in the next life for all eternity. Where God’s Word in the Bible is believed and obeyed there will be genuine prosperity. When the Bible is not believed and disobeyed, and even censored, there will not be prosperity for long. Check out Psalm 9:15, 16, 17. We are to share the Word of God found in the Bible with others at every opportunity as God opens suitable opportunities for us to do so. It is a real joy to share God’s Word directly with others. It is also helpful to encourage others, especially young people, to read the Bible for themselves.

Note: This is supposed to have been the great day of expiation, called by way of eminence, the fast, which was kept on the tenth day of the month Tisri, answering to our September. Immediately after this Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judea; and, having besieged Jerusalem, made himself master of it, on the 18th of the ninth month Cisleu, corresponding to our November. Jehoiakim, having been taken prisoner, submitted to become tributary to Nebuchadnezzar; and was again restored to his kingdom, 2 K 24:1. 2 Ch 36:6. shalt read. 2 K 22:10.
