The Nugget:
Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
My Comment:
This verse (Luke 11:28) contains the second of twelve titles the Bible gives itself on the list at Daily Bible Nugget 129, Romans 1:2. The title given at Luke 11:28 is the word of God. The Bible not only contains the Word of God, it is the Word of God. The Word of God cannot be found anywhere else, only in the Bible. Jesus tells us that those who hear the word of God and also obey it are blessed. This verse begins with the word “But.” That is because in context Jesus is contradicting what is in some circles a mistake. Note that Luke 11:27 states, “And it came to pass as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.” In our day, a certain very mistaken religious group engages in what they might call “Marion devotion.” Prayers repeated using the Rosary include such words as “blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.” Others call such a practice Mariolatry, because it is nowhere authorized by the Bible. Jesus Christ Himself in this passage in Luke 11:27-28 plainly tells us this is the wrong emphasis. We are directed by our Lord Jesus Christ not to His mother, but to the Word of God. We are to hear the Word of God, and also keep or obey it.
