Daily Bible Nugget #84, 1 John 1:9

The Nugget:

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

My Comment:

To whom are we to confess our sins to obtain their forgiveness? Clearly, we are to confess our sins directly to God Himself. And if we do so, the promise in this verse tells us He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It should be clear from this verse just what God wants us to do to obtain His forgiveness. Take advantage of this offer of forgiveness now while the opportunity presents itself. In the light of eternity, you will forever be thankful that you availed yourself of the opportunity and received the benefits this verse promises.

One Response to Daily Bible Nugget #84, 1 John 1:9

  1. ken sagely says:

1 jn 4.10 herein is love, not that we loved god, but that he loved us, and sent his son
to be the propitiation for our sins.

i jn 1.9 if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. the scofield bible has a really encouraging
note on i jn i would like to share, 1 jn is a family letter from the father to his “little
children” who are in the world. with the possible exception of song of solomon, it
is the most intimate of his inspired writings.
alot of good cross references on this great promise.

    1. 1 jn 2.12 i write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for
    his names sake.
    2. psm 32.5 i acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have i not hidden.
i said, i will confess my transgressions unto the lord, and thou forgavest the iniquity
    of my sin.
    3. psm 51. 4 against thee, thee only, have i sinned, and done this evil in thy sight,
that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
    4. pro 28.13 he that coverest his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and
    forsaketh them shall have mercy.
    5. psm 25.11 for thy names sake, o lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.
    6. psm 51.2 wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
    7. isa 6.5 then said i, woe is me! for i am undone: because i am a man of unclean
lips, and i dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the
    king,the lord of hosts.
    8. 1 jn 1.8 if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in
    us.
    9. the sin of a christian can never break his” union” with god, which is secured for
ever by christ, rom 8.1, jn 10.28-30, but such sin does interrupt the christians
“communion” with the lord. this instantly results in loss of joy, peace, and confidence toward god in prayer. blessed be god, the christian can never lose his sonship. however, deliverance from the power and domion of sin in the daily life of the child
of god is that sphere of our redemption wherein it is essential for us to come to god
repeatedly, not to be saved again, but for cleansing and for restoration. this is accom
plished by personal confession directly to god. i jn 1.9 is a promise we should use daily. its been a great blessing to me i am thankful to the lord for his provision.

“theres a fountain filled with blood drawn from immanuels veins, sinners plunged
beneath the flood lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains.”
