Daily Bible Nugget #245, Romans 3:2

The Nugget:

Romans 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

My Comment:

The advantage of possessing the Scriptures is discussed by Paul at Romans 3:2. The Jews were at a great advantage in spiritual things for a long time because they were entrusted with the oracles of God–the Bible. Paul speaks again about this issue in Ephesians 2:12 where he explains that non-Jews were strangers to the covenants of promise. They did not have access to the Bible then like we have today. At that time the Gentile world was without a hope, and without God in the world. That is the case for everyone in the world today who does not have access to the Bible, or has access to the Bible but does not read and study it. A person who knows how to read but does not do so is not much better off than a person who does not know how to read. But with the Bible the issues are crucial. If you do not read the Bible and believe its message, unless you are fortunate enough that some one has told you the message accurately so you could learn its message by hearing instead of reading, you cannot be saved. So to have the Bible is surely a very important matter for time and eternity. God has blessed us with the great privilege of access to His written Word in the Bible. Be sure not to miss the benefits of this access to the Bible we now enjoy.
