i was blessed from looking up the xrefs on jn 6/44 it opened my understanding alot the phrase”no man can come to me,” i got alot of insight from jer 13/23 “can the ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil” man has a heart problem, a spirtual need, a sin problem . job 14/4 brings out “who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one! apostle paul brings out so well in i cor 2/14 “the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of god: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spirtually discerned.” in 11 cor 3/5 is one of my favorite vs “not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of god,” the big point from looking up these xrefes is that b4 we can be saved, we must first see that we are lost! the only one who save us is our lord jesus christ” jn 6/35 i am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst!”

Thank you for your comments, Ken.

I chose this verse because (1) it contains so much helpful spiritual truth; (2) it is utterly misunderstood by certain schools of theology, namely, those of a Calvinistic persuasion. This verse absolutely does not teach what they affirm it teaches.

It is the will of the individual that God addresses, and each person is responsible to themselves respond to God’s invitation, actually command, to come to Jesus Christ and believe on Him for salvation.

The notion that God only calls those He has “predestined to eternal life” is not the teaching of the Bible. God sets no limit on who can come. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (see 1 Peter 3:9).

The Calvinist might ask, “So if God is willing for all to come, and is not willing that any should perish, why is not everyone saved?”

The answer is that God has given each of us the option to either choose to heed His invitation or call or command, or to disregard it. It is our choice.

Note carefully in the cross references given the reference to John 5:40.

i wanted to share that as i looked at the key xrefs listed with jn 6.44, i cor 2.14 was one i wanted to look at and see what insight i could gain from looking at the xrefs listed for that vs. i again was blessed by going through them one by one i want to share with you the xrfs ,the lord blessed me . i cor 2.14 reads but the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of god: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ntsk defines natural as “the animal man,one who lives in a natural state, and under the influence of his animal passions. the natural man refers to unrenewed or unregenerate man, without the holy spirit. this definition helped a whole lot as i began to look up xrefs. jn 3/3 jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily,i say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of god.vs 4 nicodemus said unto him, how can a man be born when he is old?can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?vs5 jesus answered, verily, verily, i say unto thee, except a man be born of water
and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of god. paul in rom 8/5 for they are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh: but they that are after the spirit the things of the spirit.vs 6 for to be carnally minded is death: but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.vs 7 because the carnal mind is enmity against god: for it is not subject to the law of god, neither indeed can be. vs 8 so then they are in the flesh cannot please god. ii co. 4/3 but if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: vs 4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of christ, who is the image of god, should shine unto them. as i am reading through these vss and there are several more in ntsk i start to cp them with jn 6/44 and when the lord said “no man can come to me, except the father which hath sent me draw him, and i will raise him up at the last day.” i see more and more how the natural man is totally in need of salvation and can not save himself, the lord jesus christ says jn 3/18 he that believeth on him is not condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of god. what insight the lord gives by comparing scripture with scripture i cor 2/13 “comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
