Daily Bible Nugget #162, Psalm 12:6

The Nugget:

Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

My Comment:

The Scriptures are described as pure. They do not contain error or falsehood. Read correctly, they will never lead you astray. The Bible is eternally true and unchanging. There can be new translations of the Hebrew or the Greek into English and other languages, but the Bible in its original language is unchanging.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(1) Consult the cross references given in Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible on page 538 for Psalm 12:6.

(2) Consult the cross references given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge on page 591 or in Logos 5 Bible software for Psalm 12:6.

(3) Lacking access to those two resources, consult the cross references for this passage as I have developed them as given below:

Psalm 12:6. words. or, sayings. The promises contained in the preceding verse. Those promises were made, in effect, by God when He came down to rescue Israel, because He “heard their groaning” (neaqah, Ex 2:24; 6:5, to which the anaqah of the preceding verse points). Ps 18:30. *19:8. 33:4. 56:4. 105:19. *119:38, 140. Ge 21:1. 2 S 22:31. Pr 8:8. 22:20. *30:5. Is 45:19. Jn *17:17. pure. Tahor (S#2889h)—used of gold in Ex 25:11, etc. There was no alloy in God’s promises; they would be wholly fulfilled. The present trial should only serve to evince their purity. The history of God’s covenant with Israel—or with David—was as a furnace, in which the Divine promises were tried; and they stood the test. words. Ps 19:7, 9. 51:10. as silver. Ps 66:10. Jb 28:1. Pr 27:21. tried. FS24C, 2 K +18:21. ver. %3. Ps 17:3. *18:30. 26:2. 105:19. *119:140mg. 2 S 22:31. of earth. By ellipsis (of repetition: noun from preceding clause), supply to read: “The words of Jehovah are pure words. (As) silver tried in a furnace: (Words) pertaining to the earth. Purified seven times.” The first and third member of the structure pertain to the words (The words of Jehovah are pure words/Words pertaining to the earth); the second and fourth member pertain to the purifying of silver (As silver tried in a furnace/Purified seven times). FS63I1A, Ex +12:4. See F/S 74. seven times. Ps 79:12. Ge 4:15, 24.
