Daily Bible Nugget #17 Psalm 9:10

The Nugget:

Psa 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

My Comment:

This may be one of the clearest cause/effect relationship verses in the Bible. Reading “And they that know thy name” is clearly cause. Reading “will put their trust in thee” is clearly effect. Reading “for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them” is clearly effect. Reading “them that seek thee” is obviously cause.

Therefore, should a person find it difficult to trust in God, the remedy for that is to get to know His name. Knowing His name means to get to know Him. We can best do that by reading and studying the Bible, the love letter He has written to us. But there is more. You can literally learn more about the names of God. Those are found in the Bible. In either The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge or Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible you can study those by consulting the references I have given at Exodus 15:26. Yet there is still more to study. Knowing God’s name also means to know and understand His character, his attributes. The attributes of God make for a most interesting study. A start at finding Bible references to those can be found at Matthew 28:19.

By the way, the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe God has just one name, Jehovah. The rest of what appear to be names of God they believe are just His titles. I suspect from my studies that they are mistaken, for in the Bible the term “name” is associated with other terms than just Jehovah. To study this further, check out the note I have given in the NTSK at Exodus 6:3. Also consult the references given at Psalm 68:4 and Psalm 83:18.

There is much more here to consider. What does Psalm 9:10 say about my responsibility? What does it say about God’s responsibility? The words “They that know thy name” reflect my responsibility. “Will put their trust in thee” mark my responsibility. “For thou, LORD, will not forsake them” mark God’s responsibility. The words “that seek thee” mark my responsibility.

There are many more instructive cause/effect relationship verses to be found in the Bible. The ones I have found I have listed in my note at Psalm 9:10 in both The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible. I am not aware that they can be found listed anywhere else.

    Dear Brian,

Thank you for visiting my Real Bible Study site. There used to be a way to subscribe to what I post here. It had something to do with “RSS Feed” or something like that. But I don’t see it anywhere on the screen here, so it may be that is no longer available. The other way is to “Like” this site on Facebook by clicking on the “Like” button at the top of the page at the right. My sons and others tell me that when I publish what I write to Facebook it shows up on their digital device, whether iPhone or iPad or whatever it is they might have.
