Daily Bible Nugget #165, Psalm 119:160

The Nugget:

Psalm 119:160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

My Comment:

The Scriptures are described as true. This is a remarkable claim made by the Bible for itself. Its truth has been confirmed by archaeology. Its truth has been confirmed by fulfilled Bible prophecy. Its truth has been confirmed by the impact the Bible has had on the lives of individuals as well as nations. If people turn away from the teachings of the Bible, and follow their own path morally, even discarding morality altogether, they are the losers for doing so both now and in eternity. The same goes for nations. Want to see people’s lives changed for the better? Encourage them to start reading the Bible on a consistent basis. The Bible has the power to transform lives for the better. Not even the works of Shakespeare make that claim. The Bible does, and demonstrates the truth of the claim every day.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(1) Consult the cross references given in Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible on page 634 for Psalm 119:160.

(2) Consult the cross references given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge on page 678 or in Logos 5 Bible software for Psalm 119:160.

(3) Lacking access to those two resources, consult the cross references for this passage as I have developed them as given below:

Psalm 119:160. Thy word is true from the beginning. Heb. rosh, ‘head,’ S#7218h. FS171Q12, Jg 5:30. Head put by the Figure Synecdoche (of Part) for the whole (including the beginning, and “every one,” as in the next line): the sum and substance, word and words (Je 15:16. Jn 17:8, 14), rendered “sum” in Ps 139:17. Heb. The beginning of thy word is true. Note: Dathe renders, “The sum of thy word,” etc. and Abp. Secker, “The principles of thy word;” but the textual rendering, by understanding the preposition mem, “from,” before rosh, “beginning,” appears to be more correct, as it is supported by the following line. William Kay notes: After examining the Divine Word, and estimating the value of its several parts, he found that the final sum was “Truth,”—pure, absolute, truth. T#1026. ver. 66, 86, 89, 90, 138, 142. Ps 56:4. 111:7. Dt 12:32. Pr +*22:21. *30:5. Jn *17:17. Ro 3:4. 2 T *3:16. Re 22:19. and every one. ver. 7, 75, 142, *144, 152. Ec *3:14. Mt *5:18. righteous judgments. Ps 19:9. Le 20:22. Ne 9:13. for ever. Heb. olam, Ex +*12:24. ver. +*89.
