Daily Bible Nugget #111, 1 Timothy 1:7

The Nugget:

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

My Comment:

I was introduced to serious cross reference Bible study when I was assigned to look up the cross references to this passage, 2 Timothy 1:7, by using the original Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, in Miss Ellen Groh’s How to Study the Bible class in vacation Bible school at Highland Park Baptist Church, in August of 1954, if I remember correctly. I was particularly interested in and immediately impressed with the references for the phrase at the end of the verse, “and of a sound mind.” My new-found interest in the Bible began to arouse concern on the part of my parents. They told tales of people they knew who had gone overboard by becoming too interested in spiritual things. I did not contradict them at the dinner table one-way conversations, but I personally felt that on this point they were likely mistaken. Reading the cross references for 2 Timothy 1:7 gave me strong assurance as a young person that I was indeed on the right track spiritually. That final phrase is not the only message contained in this short verse. All of it is good, and worth careful study to strengthen our faith.

For those who desire to DIG DEEPER into this subject:

(1) Consult the cross references given in Nelson’s Cross Reference Guide to the Bible on page 1409 for 2 Timothy 1:7.

(2) Consult the cross references given in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge on page 1430 or in Logos 5 Bible software for 2 Timothy 1:7.

(3) Lacking access to those two resources, consult the cross references for this passage as I have developed them as given below:
