Daily Bible Nugget #225, 2 Timothy 3:15

The Nugget:

2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

My Comment:

The Scriptures should be known. Many homes have Bibles in them. But how many Bibles are known by the people in those homes? I have a large personal library. Once in a while I forget where a book is. When I cannot find a book, that book is a lost book. I cannot read it again until I find it. The Bible might just as well be a lost book in your house if it is never read. To know the Scriptures is the most important thing in life. You cannot come to know the Scriptures unless you read and study them. Paul tells us that Timothy knew the Scriptures even as a young child. That lets us know that even children can know the Scriptures. It also lets us know that any church that claims you cannot know the Scriptures is mistaken. The Scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation which is in Christ Jesus. That means that what you need to know to be saved is taught in the Bible. Notice that salvation is based on placing our faith in Christ and what He accomplished for us on the cross. Salvation is not based upon good works. It is not based upon receiving grace from the one true church dispensed through its sacraments. Salvation is based upon our belief in God’s Word as recorded in the Bible. I was saved as a result of reading the New Testament daily when I was still a teenager. The New Testament was clear enough for me to understand how to be saved by receiving Christ. Thinking about what I had been reading, I realized I was not rightly related to God. I settled that issue while delivering papers on Saturday morning, November 7, 1953. I stopped to pray on the sidewalk under a little oak tree growing in the yard of a small house on the east side of Lumpkin Street in Detroit. At that point I knew that I was saved. No one else was around when this happened. I have enjoyed the privilege of recommending to teenagers in my high school English classes that they read the Bible faithfully for themselves. Several of them told me that they were saved as a result. It is important to know the Scriptures for ourselves. Get to know the Bible by reading it. If I could do it, you can do it! You can encourage others to do the same.
