Daily Bible Nugget #224, Acts 13:15

The Nugget:

Act 13:15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

My Comment:

The Scriptures should be read publicly to all. The Scriptures were read every Sabbath in the Synagogues of the Jews. Some Christian churches today follow a plan of reading the Scriptures each worship service. In the time of Christ people in Israel learned much of what the Bible said by hearing it read aloud each Sabbath. Paul and those with him were invited to give a word of exhortation to the people. Paul spoke from the Scripture and presented the claims of Christ to those present. Acts chapter 13 presents in a nutshell what Paul taught them. In Acts 13:34 Paul appeals directly to the provisions of the Davidic Covenant, as did Isaiah in Isaiah 55:3. Today I find very few individuals that I meet who can explain just what “the sure mercies of David” are, and their significance. The testimony of Scripture reflected in the cross references given for Isaiah 55:3 are sufficient alone to demonstrate whether or not the teaching of a church, denomination, or religious organization is true to the Bible. I told the story about a leader of the local Kingdom Hall with whom I shared these references in an early post on this site about the power of cross reference Bible study demonstrated.
