Daily Bible Nugget #167, Psalm 19:7

The Nugget:

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

My Comment:

This short verse is a favorite of mine. I hope it will become a favorite of yours too, if it is not already. The Scriptures are described as perfect. They were designed by God for a specific purpose. They always accomplish that purpose, and do not “return void,” as it states in Isaiah 55:11,

Isa_55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

One of the evidences that God’s Word in the Bible is perfect is that it accomplishes God’s purpose for those who will read and believe it, for it converts the soul. I believe this indicates that anyone who will read and believe the Bible will become rightly related to God as a result, and will be supernaturally transformed for the better in their life.

I have noticed quite a few Google search “hits” on this site for people looking for help in overcoming discouragement. This verse addresses that concern. The expression “converting the soul” is given in the margin by the translators an alternate translation which reads “restoring the soul.” God through the power of His written word in the Bible will indeed both convert and restore your soul, literally person, if you take the time and make the effort to let God speak to you by reading the Bible for yourself. The rest of Psalm 19:7 states that “the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” The term “the testimony” is another word the Bible uses to name or describe itself. Therefore, God’s word is sure–that is, certain, for it will make the unassuming person wise. When you possess the wisdom God provides in His word the Bible, you will be much wiser, and equipped to better address the problems of life. That ought to dispel most of your discouragement, and give you a bright and positive outlook on life.
